Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes! Everything you need to know!

Today we have to discus about cleaning your brushes and sponges!
We all know that out brushes get dirty really quick, but do you know why is important to clean them?

The importance of cleaning your brushes:
You will have a clean makeup as well: Having dirty brushes will make your makeup look muddy. Ex.: Imagine you have some black on your brush and you want to put some brown on your eyes.. well it will not look good honey!
You will preserve your brushes more: If you leave products in your brushes, this will only damage the natural hair in it and break.Imagine your brushes is your hair… you need to keep it clean so they remain intact and heathy. Your foundation can dry into your bristles and make them hard and eventually break.
Bacteria: Cleaning your brushes will get rid of the bacteria in it. This bacteria can come from the air, cause they were exposed to an open space or from your products. the bacteria can self develop into the bristles.
Acne: If you have acne prone skin, using the same brush over and over again without cleaning it, will only spread out your acne!

How to wash your brushes:

1. Buy a special detergent from your drugstore, that is made for cleaning your brushes. Harsh detergents will dry out the bristles and make them more stiff. Imagine you are taking care of your hair, you do not want cheap shampoo in your hair that will make it fall. You can also use “johnson’s baby shampoo“. I find “johnson’s baby” to be perfect cause it cleans so good and it is very gentle and a little hydrating to.
fml-blis Shampoo 032.JPG
2. Pur a tiny amount in your hand, wet the brush and start cleaning it into your palm doing gentle circular motions.Do this until the foam that you create become clear.
cleaning-brushes
3. Rinse very well everything off your brushes. Be sure you are left with no detergent in your bristles!
4. Moisture: Take a leave in conditioner (spray) and spray a tiny bit on them from a distance. I know it sounds weird, but it does help!
5. Dry them in a vertical position, with the bristles facing down! Why? Cause the excess water has to fall of the brushes, otherwise it will damage the glue and your brushes will have fallout.
IMG_4650_large

This is everything you need to know about deep cleaning your brushes. I would say do this every 2 weeks, or depending on how much makeup you use, if you consider you need to do it once a week. This is ofcorse in case you use these brushes on yourself; If you use them on someone else be sure they are clean before and after you apply the makeup on someone else.
how-to-clean-makeup-brushes-1

Quick cleaning: If you are in a rush, or you want to be sure you just disinfected them a little bit before applying makeup, there a a lot of spray, with alcohol that will disinfect the brushes.
Spray a little on the brush and then on a cloth, do circular motion. This will remove the extra product and bacteria.
These kind of sprays can be used to spray on your eyeshadow pallet so you can kill the bacteria that may live on your eyeshadows.
This is a step that every makeup artist does, so he can have clean brushes and pallets all the time. After every client, he/she sprays some product on the brushes and pallets.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and that you learned something today! If you have questions, please leave them in the comments bellow!

Makeup Brushes 101

Today we talk makeup! And we will be talking about the most important thing about makeup: Brushes
Brushes are the most important tools in any makeup kit; Even mascaras have a brush! 🙂

I will not be talking about how many brushes or what brands should a makeup artist have, I will be talking about the large population, wich don’t need that many.
So.. what are brushes good for? Well, darling, brushes will help you apply, blend and define your makeup. If you are a minimalistic person that wears just little makeup, yes you could go on without brushes, but either way these tips will help you!

You can have synthetic hair or real hair brushes:
Synthetic hair is good for liquids and creams so they will not be absorbed into the bristles.
Real hair is good for powders like eyeshadows, blushes, face powder..etc. This will grab the products and keep it on the brush until you apply it to the face. When applying it will be more smooth and the blending easier.

Basic kit for everyone:
cl
Foundation brush (synthetic) or a foundation sponge: Your fingers can do their job, but a brush will give you a more natural finish, nd blending will not rub off the product.
RTE-01401-3
Powder brush (real hair) : A big, fluffy powder brush will make sure that you dispose your powder correctly and quick on your skin.
RTE-01407-3
Blush brush (synthetic or real hair) : Depending on the type of blush you have (creamy or powder); This looks a little like the powder brush but a smaller one. This brush will help you blend your blush so you will not have a big dot on your face! 🙂 Haha!
laura_mercier_Angled_Cheek_Contour_Brush
Contouring brush (real hair): If you like to contour your face, or you saw what contouring can do to your face, you need to have a contouring brush, wich is a fluffy angled brush so you can be very precise when making those shadows on your face!

Eyeshadow brush: Depending on what type of makeup you wear, you will need from 4 to 6 brushes;
flat-makeup-brush
Flat eyeshadow applying brush (real hair): 3 of them, but you can go with only 2. This will apply the color to your eyes, and you don’t want to use the same brush for two or more separate eyeshadows.
blending-brush
Blending brush (real hair): This look like a miniature powder brush (fluffy). This will blend the colors together so you do not have any sharp-looking like or blocky color on your eyes. 2 of them is needed (you can pass with only one) for a nice blend eye.
1825_smudge_eye_brush_XL
Smudging brush (real hair): This is if you like to smudge your eyeliner so it looks more smokey, and it’s perfect for the under eyes area so you can apply just s little color.

Eyebrows: Two main brushes are needed:
angled-brush
A flat angled brush (synthetic) for filling in your eyebrows and give them shape; The angled brush will give you precision, not letting any mistakes.
*This can also be doubled as a gel eyeliner brush (but wash it right after)
download
A coaming brush (synthetic) for coaming your eyebrows in place and get rid of the excess product in your eyebrows after filling them in. This will also make them look more natural.

So these are the basic brushes that you need to ensure a perfect makeup. Like I said, If you are the type of person that wears only mascara and a liquid eyeliner you can pass the eye brushes.
Also, try investing in your brushes, cause a more precise brush that does not leave hair behind will give you a more better looking makeup; And if you take good care of your brushes you will have them for a long, long period of time. Brushes can be expensive, but you will not change them as you change your mascara or foundation.

I hope you learnt something today and enjoyed this post; Like always please give this post a like and comment down bellow telling me what is one brush that you can not live without.
Also if you need tips for cleaning your brushes please tell me, and I can give you advice!

Beauty Blender

the ORIGINAL beautyblender
“Modernize The Way You Makeup”

Today we will be talking about the beauty blender! The beauty blender is a sponge used to apply your foundation or concelear to your face.
beautyblenderunbox   I bought mine with the “blendercleanser” (solid) that is used to wash your beauty blender after using it and can also be used for brushes. In the picture you can see the packaging of the products with their signature color pink.
the original BeautyBlender is an Award Winner at the “allure/ The Beauty Expert” 2013 for “BEST OF BEAUTY”, being one of the most used products by many makeup artists and was created by celebrity makeup artist and beauty expert Rea Ann Silva.
boxeeedWhen opening the blender be careful to take out the sponge from the bottom so you will not force the fabric to split apart. The beauty blender is latex free, cause some people have latex allergy.

How to use the BeautyBlender:
howtoDrench the blender with water for a couple of seconds so it can expand; Then squeeze all the excess water from the sponge. This will help a lot, because being humid the sponge will not absorb the product that you will use. You can apply your favorite foundation on the bottom part of the blender and using dabbing motions on your skin, apply the foundation and blend it into your skin.
With the pointy part of the blender you can apply your concelear or foundation in smaller places like around your nose and under the eyes.

How to clean:
cleaningOpen and let the water pour over the solid cleanser for a couple of seconds; After it being wet, rub the dirty parts of the blender on the soap. This will absorb the soap into the sponge and you can wash it by gentle squeezing motion. Let it dry until it comes back to it normal size.
Wash once every 2 weeks if you use it only on yourself, wash after every use on someone else!

Review:
I have to say I am very impressed by this product. The sponge itself it’s very soft to touch and it does his job flawlesly. It give you an almost airbrush effect on the skin after applying the foundation and your face will look amazing even if you try to build up the foundation, without looking cakey. Everything will blend so easy into your skin that it will give you  the “2nd skin” effect, not looking like a mask at all! Dabbing it into your face is a pleasure being so soft. The quality of the material is impeccable and it will last you for a long time if you will take good care of it.
This product is for everyone, it will make your life much more easier and you will look like a pro doing your makeup. 🙂

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin means that your skin is so dry, it can not protect itself anymore and any type of exterior influence can make it feel itchy or have redness, a lot of flakiness skin bumps or skin erosion. Because is so dry, it will not protect the nerve ending anymore, feeling uncomfortable almost all the time and irritated.

Causes for having sensitive skin:
1. Seasonal changes: If seasonal changes make you feel stressed or tired, then this happens to your skin too. A tired skin will only fall apart!
2. Air pollution: If you live in an area with high air pollution this will be absorbed into your skin and dry it out!
3. Hard water: Water can contain high levels of minerals like iron, magnesium and calcium and is highly alkaline. This will dry you skin very bad, harming the external skin layers.
4. Cleansing: If you cleanse your face too much and with the wrong products you will dry out your skin in no time.Be carefull how much you cleanse your face and with what type of products!
5. Lifestyle: This has a major impact for your skin, and anything on your exterior body. If you can live without stress or minimize it to almost nothing not only you will be a happier person but a more beautiful one!
6. Dyet&Hidratation: Being on a drastic diet or unhealthy one can reflect in the skin really quick and bad; Also drinking a lot of water every day helps your body producing moisture for your skin.
7. Ingredients in skin care products: You might be allergic to some ingredients in the skin care products you have. Make sure you buy more natural products.

Attention!! Sensitive skin is a problematic skin condition! You need to see a dermatologist to figure out the best treatment for your skin ad how can you bring it back to normal!

sensitiveskin-1024x682Taking care of sensitive skin:
Scrubbing:
Even if you should scrub once a week, for sensitive skin, being so fragile, I have to say to skip this step until you figure out how to bring it back to normal.
Washing: Find a gentle hidrating face wash, with no chemicals in it. Go for all natural if possible. Try to avoid washing your face too much; Once a day is more than enough..if you can go more, I would say go more without washing,
Toner: To avoid any chemicals in the contents of the bottle make one for yourself at home. A toner can balance your pH, and you need this more than anything when you have sensitive skin.
Moisturizer: Find a moisturizer that is thick in its consistency, with SPF 20 at least and the is mostly natural. Be sure to find one that is Paraben Free! You do not need any weird chemicals in your skin!

Tone&Moisturize daily for good results in time! Avoid scrubbing at all, do not even think about it and wash your face as little as possible.

I know beauty products can get expensive these days, but try investing in a GOOD moisturizer. Find one for your age range, that can do miracles & be sure it has mostly natural ingredients so you do not irritate the skin.

Makeup: No makeup for you honey! Try avoiding makeup as much as possible! If you really need to wear makeup then go for gentle hidrating products. Use BBcreams, creamy products that will not dry out your skin even more!!

If you have any more questions please ask in the comments bellow & Also if you want me to write more about makeup for sensitive skin just tell me in the comments! 🙂

Combination Skin

Combination skin is when you have both oily and dry skin areas on your face. This combines the two and can get problematic when considering taking care of. Most common is having dry skin on the exterior of your face but your T-zone is oily.

Causes of having combination skin:

Your sebaceous glands produce more oil in the center part of your face, making you look shiny and the exterior is dry and can have flakiness. To better understand the causes of combination skin you have to know the causes of having Oily Skin and Dry Skin.

The good & The bad of having combination skin:
There kinda is no good in having combination skin cause you suffer from both of them, you skin will tend to age quickly and you have chances of breaking out having a problem with acne.
This does not mean you can not take care of your skin even if in this case is more problematic than the other types of skin.

Taking care of combination skin:
Scrubbing:
You will have to scrub your face but without irritating the skin.I would say to try a normal skin scrubbing product so you can balance the both. Do this once every two weeks (if you feel you need more than this then try more often).
Washing:
Same with the face wash product, go for a normal skin face wash but try to not over do it and be as gentle as possible.Wash your face with cold water!!
Toner: Tone your face with a good product.. toners are for all types of skin usually. So get one that can really do it’s job! This product can be your saviour!
Moisturize: I would recommend using two different moisturizers so you can apply them exactly were needed. One for oily skin and one for dry skin. If it’s too expensive for you then try one with low-fat that does not leave your face greasy and can absorb quick into the skin but also providing moisture for the dry parts.
combination-skin
Face Mask: This is a step that most skin types can pass (even if i recommend it) but can be crucial for your skin. Have a hidrating mask for your outer parts of your face and some kind of mask that will solve your oilyness problem on the T-zone. (as seen in the picture).Do this once a week!

Do all these stept daily (minus the scrubbing and face mask) for a good-looking and healthy skin!

I know products can get expensive these days but I recommend you to invest in a good Toner and a good Face Mask. Considering the fact that you need two different types of masks I would say to invest more in the face mask!

Makeup: Use liquid foundation but not oily, creamy eyeshadows, creamy blushes, and powder just the T-zone of your face when needed.
Pay attention to the products you buy to not be too harsh for any of the skin types!

If you have any more questions please ask me in the comments bellow & If you want me to talk more about makeup for combination skin please feel free to tell me! 🙂

Dry Skin

Dry skin is very common, and this means you skin does not have enough moisture between the layers of the skin causing it to flake and in some cases be irritated. Observing this is looking around your nose area and mouth to see if you have dead skin around or you can also observe it at the elbow area. People with dry skin may also have flakiness on the legs.

Causes of drying skin:
1. Seasons: During the winter time we all get dry skin, and this can affect people with dry skin dehydrating the skin even more.
2. Steamy showers: You would think a steamy shower/bath will do miracles to your skin but it does not help you if you have dry skin. The steam will only strip the moisture from your skin.
3. Soaps: Most soaps/ shower gels can rob your skin of moisture and this will make your skin even drier.
4. Over-use of beauty products (alcohol): I only mean the products that have any type of alcohol in them.Alcohol will evaporate the good moisture that the skin has.
5. Low humid areas: Living in a low humid area will affect your skin. the humidity in the air will help your skin from flaking.

!!Dry skin can get sensitive! You have to take care of it otherwise you could get a sensitive skin!!

The good&The bad of having dry skin:
The good thing is that as a young person you do not have to be worried about breaking out or having acne. As a teenager your skin will look almost perfect and growing as an adult you will not have acne scaring. Also your skin will not be shiny during the day.
The bad thing is that your skin will age faster if you do not take care of it. Dry skin will gain wrinkles faster than the other types of skin and the flakiness can get ugly sometimes.

Taking care of dry skin:
Scrubbing: Scrubbing is not great for dry skin cause it can strip the little moisture in your skin.. but it is also something that needs to be done so you can take away all the dead skin. Find a face scrubbing product that is for dry skin and that has something that also moisturizes the skin while scrubbing it. Do this twice a week.
Washing: Exclude any harsh soaps, and find oil based washing products for your face that takes out the dirt but does not harm your skin.Use cold water to help toning your face.
Toner: This will help balance your pH and will lock in the good moisture in your skin. You can diy a toner at home!
Moisturizer: This step is crucial for dry skin! Find a moisturizer for your skin type, a more fat one, in your age range so you can fill your skin with good moisture. This will do wonders for your skin and it will prevent it from ageing as fast.
moisturize-273x300
Do all these steps daily (minus the scrubbing) for a nice, healthy looking skin! If you feel like your skin need more moisture apply your cream twice a day!

I know that product these day can get a little expensive, but try investing in a good scrub and a good moisturizer.I promise you that a good quality moisturizer will make the difference.. and If it’s too much to use it twice a day I recommend you to use it before bed so it can do it’s magic during the night.

Makeup: Use oil based makeup products&creamy makeup products. Use oil based foundations, creamy eyeshadows, creamy blushes and so on! Be carefull to buy the makeup products good for your skin! Avoid powder products cause it can cause flakiness and your makeup will look cakey.

If you have any more questions please ask in the comments bellow & Also if you want me to write more about makeup for dry skin just tell me in the comments! 🙂

Oily Skin

“Oily skin is caused by over-active sebaceous glands, that produce a substance called sebum, a naturally healthy skin lubricant. When the skin produces excessive sebum, it becomes heavy and thick in texture.”

Causes for oily skin/over producing oil:

1. Genetics: If your parents have oily skin there is a chance of you having larger sebaceous glands.
2. Over-use of skin care products: Over exfoliating and cleaning your face with any type of products may dry out the skin and/or damage it and as a protection shield the skin will compensate with producing oil.
3. Changing season: Seasonal changing can make your skin produce more oil; In the summer sweating more make you look oily and in the winter, being a cold season that can dry your skin you over produce oil.
4. Medication: Most medication can cause dehydration in the skin. especially birth-control pills or hormone medication.
5. Stress: In response to stress, your body will produce more androgen hormones wich will make the skin produce more oil.
6. Sun Tanning: Even if you think tanning will dry out your skin, tanning is actually very bad for reducing it.. Drying the skin out will only irritate the skin and make it damaged, so as a response, to self-heal it-self it will produce more oil.

Acne-prone skin: not everyone with oily skin will have this problem but on most cases you tend to break out more easily than the other skin types. The excess oils produced by your skin will “help” the breakouts to occur more often.
acnee_61729100_09881100_73418900Do not use harsh products on trying to clean your skin of blemishes/pimples cause it can dry your skin for a moment, making it look good for a time but it will come back as fast as you “cured” it.  Drying out your skin will make your pimples disappear for now, but the skin will produce extra oil and can make a breakout be worse.

The good&The bad of having oily skin:
The good part is that producing extra oil, your face will always be moisturized and it will keep its elasticity more with ageing. This means your skin will not age as fast as the other types of skin (if you take good care of it), wrinkles and age spots will not be a problem as fast as other people have.
The bad part is that you may have problems with acne and blemishes wich can be unappealing and can leave scars on your face. You also have to always wipe your face from the extra oil your skin produced so you will not look shiny all the time.

Taking care of oily skin:
Always, by all means, buy beauty products for your type of skin; In this case no oily products or nothing that contains oils.
If you have acne prone skin, go to a dermatologist and see what he recommends you taking for your blemishes.
Scrubbing: use a very mild scrub on your face to be sure you get rid of any extra dead skin on your face. Once a week is more than enough, and I recommend doing it after the shower so your skin is soft and your pores are open.
*If you have bad acne do not scrub at all!! This will only irritate the acne and make it spread even more!!
Washing:
after scrubbing be sure to use a face wash made for oily skin, but one that does not dry out your skin completely! Be sure to wash your face gently, massaging it in circular motion, with cold water so you can close your pores!
Facial Toner: Very important process, toning your face with a toner (home-made or brand name toner) so you can balance the pH of your skin and help it recover.
Moisturizer: Having oily skin does not make you skip this step! You need to moisturize your skin with good moisture so that the skin will not feel the need to over produce oil; Plus it will help your skin remain young and healthy. Find a good moisturizer for your age range, and one that is not fat, a serum that will be absorbed into the skin quick without leaving the skin greasy.
Do all these steps daily (without the scrubbing) for making sure you will have a good skin.
I recommend investing in a good Toner, this can really help the oily skin.I know products these days can get a little expensive but try to invest in a good Toner or make yourself one.

Makeup: Use powders as makeup products! Powder foundation, powder blush, powder eyeshadow.. and so on so you will not add any oils. Or you can also find liquid foundation that are water based with no oils; But like I said always buy products for your type of skin.

If you have more questions please ask in the comments bellow & Tell me if you would like to know more about makeup for oily skin! 🙂

George
